Are Smoked Candied Pecans Healthy?
Making your own smoked candied pecans using raw pecans is super easy! Using my Z-Grill 700 Series pellet grill makes the smoking process as care free as possible.
Candied Pecans vs Praline Pecans:
These two terms are often used interchangeably, but are actually quite different from one another. Praline pecans often use a butter and maple glaze. Where as candied pecans typically use egg whites and a light brown sugar coating.
These Candied Pecans are even more unique than most, in that they use Allulose Brown Sugar. Making them perfect for the paleo diet and are even diabetic friendly!
Egg white
Egg whites play an important role in this recipe. The egg whites allow the brown sugar coating to evenly stick to the pecans.
Because pecans produce their own oils in the smoking process. Just a little bit of egg white goes a long way!
Are Pecans Paleo Friendly?
Old Bay Seasoning:
A popular seasoning in the North East which usually accompanies all types of crab and lobster dishes. This spice blend plays an important role in the Paleo Smoked Candied Pecans recipe.
Consisting of celery salt, red and black pepper, and paprika. Old Bay seasoning adds complex flavors that will make your pecans explode with flavor!
Allulose Brown Sugar:
Allulose brown sugar is a low glycemic, zero calorie, all natural sugar substitute. Because of this, it is a great candidate for the Paleo diet. Not only is allulose low glycemic, but it can also help lower the glycemic low of other high glycemic load carbohydrates.
Also, unlike most sweeteners, allulose will not cause a spike in blood sugar levels. There are even some studies illustrating that allulose sweetener can aid in lowering blood sugar levels
How to Make Smoked Candied Pecans

Ingredients for Paleo Smoked Candied Pecans:
An important ingredient in Paleo Smoked Candied Pecans if my Popcorn Seasoning. You can view my blog post for Chef Kevin’s Popcorn Seasoning, or use the following instructions:
- Lowry’s Seasoning
- Old Bay Seasoning
- Black Pepper
- Monk Fruit Seasoning
Firstly, start by combining 2 tablespoons of Lowry’s seasoning, 2 tablespoons of monk fruit sweetener, 2 teaspoons of old bay sweetener and 1 teaspoon of black pepper into a bowl and mix thoroughly. Then transfer to a shaker bottle and set aside.
Smoking the Candied Pecans:
- Firstly, start by turning the pellet grill on and setting to 275 degrees
- Next, add raw pecans to a large mixing bowl
- Then, drizzle over 1 egg white, and use hands to mix evenly
- Add 1.5 cups of allulose brown sugar in .5 cup increments and mix thoroughly
- Add 2 tablespoons of Chef Kevin’s Popcorn Seasoning
- Then, place on a cooling rack in a baking sheet in a single layer
- Add to pellet grill for 45 minutes
- Stir pecans well with a spatula
- Return to pellet grill for 45 minutes or until exterior is lightly browned
- Finally, remove and sprinkle with flakey kosher salt
- Allow the pecans to cool and then transfer to a mason jar for storage
How Long are Smoked Candied Pecans Good For?
Of course, paleo smoked candied pecans are best served fresh off the smoker. However, they can also be kept in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
You can also warm up the stored pecans in the microwave for a few seconds. That way, you can experience that warm fresh candied pecan taste anytime you want!

- 1½ cup Allulose Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 2 tbsp Chef Kevin's Popcorn Seasoning

- 2 tbsp Monk Fruit Seasoning
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 2 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
